Gay and Lesbian

Gay and Lesbian people sometimes struggle with a number of complicated issues:

  • Living with secrets
  • Coming out to family, friends, community, and in the workplace
  • Changing relationships with family
  • Experiencing acceptance, searching for role models
  • Shame
  • Poor self esteem or negative thoughts about your body
  • Seeking approval
  • Safer sex and sexual health
  • Dating and negotiating relationships
  • Connecting with competent healthcare providers

Psychotherapy is an effective tool to explore feelings about yourself in a culture that doesn’t always validate gay and lesbian people. Discrimination and homophobia still exist, and both have a profound impact on gay and lesbian peoples health and mental health.
